Manifesto of the Sensory Artist
I am an artist, a creator of experiences, a weaver of sensory landscapes, and a student of the human condition. I am intrigued by the facets of human engagement, and the subtle and profound ways in which we connect. The psychology of human interaction has always been my muse. The need for connection, the longing for understanding, and the quest for shared experience is where I draw my inspiration.
In my journey towards a Master of Fine Arts degree, I delved deep into the intricacies of human interaction, unraveling the layers of connection that bind us. I discovered that to truly connect, to forge a bond that transcends the ordinary, we need to find common ground, a shared experience, a collective understanding. We need to know, deep in our souls, that we are not alone.
But the challenge arises when our experiences are unique, when we stand alone in our perspectives. How do we convey our unique experiences to others when they lack the reference points to understand? How do we create a bridge of understanding when the chasm of difference seems too vast?
I believe the answer lies in the realm of the senses. We can't simply tell stories or show images. We have to engage the full spectrum of senses: touch, smell, hear, see, taste. We have to immerse ourselves and others in the experience, allowing them to feel, sense, and understand from a first-hand perspective.
In my work, I strive to create environments that engage multiple senses. I aim to transform my unique experiences into shared ones, crafting sensory landscapes that allow others to step into my world, to see through my eyes, to feel what I feel.
My work explores the distortion of experiences induced by an autoimmune disorder, how it alters one's perspective on life. I represent these distorted perspectives through abstract non-literal representations. A light symbolizes a conversation with a doctor, a sound evoking a moment of pain or confusion. Through these abstractions, I invite viewers to associate their own responses, to find commonality, to forge a connection.
My goal is not to make the viewer aware of my health struggles, but rather, to condition them to relate to my work, to understand and share in my experiences. I want to create a lasting connection, an understanding that transcends the need for explanation. I want to create a bond that endures, a shared experience that resonates deeply within the viewer.
This is my manifesto. This is my mission. This is my art.
